History of Ornamental Crystal Shrimp

One man created the beginning of the Crystal Shrimp industry

Where does the first Crystal Red Shrimp come from?

Crystal shrimp originated from the Chinese diamond shrimp, created by a sushi restaurant owner named "Hisayasu Suzuki" in Aichi county, Japan.

He bought diamond bee shrimps in Hong Kong and kept them as pets. In 1996, through selective breeding,Hisayasu Suzuki announced the first one "Red White Crystal "shrimps and applied for a "Crystal Shrimp" patent.

The total cost of raising them was about 8 millionYEN, about 70,000 USD  by exchange rate at 1996.

This is a cute and novel aquarium pet.It quickly became a crazy aquarium trend driving Japanese aquariums.Attracting many Japanese breeders who were originally engaged in other fish species to join.It even spread to nearby Taiwan and Germany in Europe, and started to spread from there.

In the early days, because the ornamental value of native shrimps was low, most of them were collected from the wild. Before Hisayasu Suzuki most of the original shrimps were used as feed for pet fish.He created  Red White Crystal shrimp which can be said to be the beginning of the entire ornamental crystal shrimp.
